Jelka van Houten seriously in danger: ‘New Samantha Steenwijk!’

A life-threatening threat at the start of Jelka van Houten’s TV career: she is already being compared to Samantha Steenwijk. “My advice? Now really take it easy for a moment.”

Jelka van Houten, the sister of Carice van Houten, is suddenly making waves as a brand new TV star. So you only see her in Carice’s shadow, so she herself is in the spotlight everywhere. She can currently be seen alongside the great Martijn Krabbé in the Saturday evening show All Against 1 on RTL 4, but unfortunately that is not exactly a success.

‘Dosage, Jelka!’

It is time for Jelka to take a moment to reflect, says Privé star journalist Jan Uriot in his column What does Jan think?. He points out that dosage is the magic word. He does that himself too. “I like a podcast, but I don’t spend much time on TV. This is what I do, you know, and I always think that you have to deal with it in a somewhat measured manner.”

He continues: “I mean: you can want to have your nose on television every evening, but I think you create a kind of overkill that makes people a little nauseous. We have experienced that before with Samantha Steenwijk, for example. I encouraged that and she was very angry about it.”

New Samantha?

That was during the corona period, Jan explains. “When Samantha was asked to do everything and she was also involved in everything. And now it strikes me: Jelka van Houten. Make Up Your Mind, I Can See Your Voice, Jelka Op Eigen Houtje, All Against 1. These are all programs that have been on television in recent weeks, so Jelka van Houten is on TV every evening.”

Too muchJan thinks so. “Then I think: that’s a lot. At some point it will be over, you know. Where does that come from? That is also very important. Look, you get those offers. Those editors are actually quite lazy, because they suddenly see: hey, Jelka can do this and that, can’t we also ask her for other things?”

Seductive

Jelka should then let that sink in and make choices, he advises. “It is very tempting to go into it, but I think you should sometimes think about: take it easy for a moment.

What does he think of All Against 1? “It’s slow television and then there are all those commercial breaks in between. It’s long and old fashioned. My advice? Take it easy for a moment. Just take it easy.”
