Motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings from Oploo has won the Grand Prix of Latvia in the MXGP. He won both motos in Kegums.
Herlings celebrated his 103rd GP victory. The five-time world champion (twice MXGP and three times MX2) is already the motocross rider with the most grands prix wins since his 102nd GP victory last month.
Number two
Herlings narrowed his gap to Jorge Prado, the leader of the world title standings. Herlings, the number two in the ranking, is now fifteen points behind the Spaniard.
The Dutchman made the difference in the final phase of both races. He won the first moto after a crash.
‘Very heavy’
In the second moto he also fought his way to the front in the rain. Finally he passed Prado and Romain Febvre, the Frenchman who is now third in the standings. The Dutchman Glenn Coldenhoff became the number 4 of the Grand Prix of Latvia.
“It was very tough,” said Herlings at the finish. “But I am happy with the result. On to Germany, where we will be in action again next week.”
