Harry Styles also paid tribute to McVie on Thursday night (December 1) with his acoustic cover of “Songbird”, first released on RUMOURS in 1977. Styles ended the song with the words “Thank you, Christine” during his performance at the Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida in Santiago (Chile) and blew a kiss into the sky.

Styles has consistently expressed his admiration for the band in the past, citing them as inspiration for his solo projects. The musician already has 2017 “The Chain” for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge covered what went viral on the internet and now has 32 million views on YouTube. Styles has also performed several times with Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has songs like “Landslide” and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart”. Styles shared a black and white photo of McVie on his Instagram story on Wednesday, paying tribute to the late singer.

McVie has consistently stated throughout her music career that she was closely associated with “Songbird,” largely because of the moving lyrics. She described her experience writing the piece as “spiritual” as she would wake up in the middle of the night and play it cover to cover on her piano without first writing or conceptualizing anything. McVie recorded the song in the studio the next day.
