Jeanette Biedermann is called as a witness in the trial against Gil Ofarim. The Leipzig Regional Court announced that she and her husband are scheduled to appear in court on November 28, the sixth day of the trial. The process is expected to last until November 30th.
Gil Ofarim is currently on trial for alleged defamation, false suspicion and fraud. The charges resulted from an Instagram video that Ofarim published in early October 2021. In the clip, the Jewish musician made serious allegations of anti-Semitism against an employee of a Leipzig hotel. Ofarim claimed the staff member asked him to remove his Star of David before he could check in.
Video recordings from the hotel lobby were then examined. The public prosecutor eventually initiated an investigation, but the case against the hotel employee was dropped.
Subsequently, charges were brought against Ofarim. So far, the witnesses who have already been heard have not been able to confirm Ofarim’s statement; whether this will now change remains to be seen.
Biedermann’s role and contact with Ofarim
Although, according to a court spokesman, Jeanette Biedermann was not in the hotel in question, she is said to have had contact with Ofarim shortly afterwards. It is not yet known what role she will play in the trial and whether her meeting with the defendant can provide any information.
Most recently, Ofarim’s former manager, Yvonne P., gave insights into the defendant’s character and said that he was “a gentleman of the old school”.
