JD Sports increases half-year sales and earnings

The British retail group JD Sports Fashion Plc achieved a solid increase in sales in the first half of the 2023/24 financial year. Thanks to positive special effects, profit also exceeded the previous year’s level. This emerges from an interim report that the group of companies presented on Thursday.

Accordingly, group sales in the 26 weeks before July 29th amounted to 4.78 billion British pounds (5.52 billion euros), which corresponded to an increase of 8.3 percent compared to the same period last year. On an organic basis – i.e. adjusted for acquisitions, discontinued operations and exchange rate changes – revenue grew by 11.9 percent.

Operating profit rose by 20.2 percent to 400.1 million British pounds. However, the group owes this not least to positive one-off factors: Adjusted for special effects, the operating result fell by 4.7 percent to 398.4 million British pounds. The reported net profit attributable to shareholders reached 239.9 million British pounds (276.7 million euros) in the first half of the year, exceeding the corresponding previous year’s level by 30.0 percent.
