JD.com opens logistics center in France

Chinese e-commerce group JD.com Inc. announced on Thursday the opening of its first independently operated distribution center for fashion goods in Europe.

The facility in Val-d’Oise near Paris is used by the corporate platform JD Worldwide to export items from European suppliers in the areas of clothing, jewelry, cosmetics and luxury items to China, the online retailer explained.

“This initiative is a key element of the company’s cross-border e-commerce strategy, which aims to facilitate the entry of more European brands into the Chinese market by providing efficient fulfillment solutions,” JD.com said.

Louis Zhang, General Manager of Luxury & Fashion at JD Worldwide, explained the background: “Our strategy focuses on expanding our supply chain to the locations where the brands are based,” he said in a statement. “This approach not only reduces fulfillment costs for local sellers, but also offers faster delivery, competitive prices and reliable service for our customers.” In this way, the company wants to “open up new opportunities for more SMEs and specialty brands from Europe and for them provide access to the dynamic Chinese fashion market,” said Zhang.
