Javelin thrower Weber takes third place in Ostrava

Javelin thrower Julian Weber took third place at the international athletics meeting in Ostrava. The 27-year-old’s javelin landed in the Czech Republic at 83.92 meters.

The German champion thus stayed behind his distances from the competitions in Doha (86.09) and Dessau (85.02).

Johannes Vetter, world champion from 2017, decided not to compete in Ostrava. The 29-year-old is taking a break from competition due to technical and physical problems.

The Olympic fourth-placed weaver ranks second behind Andreas Hofmann (86.52) in the German list of the best with his Doha distance.

“I’m definitely aiming for the 90 meters, that’s my goal,” said Weber on Tuesday at “leichtathletik.de”. “But I pay less attention to placement or distance and more to how I feel about the throws. I just want to make really long throws this year, and depending on that they will go far, at least further than before.”

The victory in Ostrava went to the world year’s best and surprise world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada. 87.88 meters were enough for him.

The Ethiopian Lamecha Girma (21) finished the 3000 meter obstacle course in 7:58.68 minutes with the best time of the year. The 17-year-old Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi continued his good performance this year in the 800 meters. He won over 800 meters in 1:44.15 minutes. This is the second best time this year.

The World Championships from July 15th to 24th in Eugene and the European Championships from August 15th to 21st in Munich are two of the top events coming up in quick succession this year.
