Jaume Giró sees “very difficult” for Junts to support the ERC budgets for 2023

  • The ‘ex-minister’ of Economy maintains the unknown as to whether or not he will present himself to contest the next elections to the Generalitat

The ‘ex-minister’ of Economy Jaume Giro sees “very difficult” that together can agree on the budgets of the Generalitat with CKD and end up giving them their support. The post-convergent considers that the negotiations with his former partner in the Government are not evolving favorably and that they have not given “a positive response” to many of their proposals, such as the inclusion in the public accounts of the construction of the Hard Rock macro-project or the infrastructure of the fourth belt. Measures that both Junts and the PSC. However, Giró does predict that Pere Aragonès will end up approving the public accounts with the Socialists and that he will do so in February, as he stated in an interview in ‘El Nacional’ published this Sunday.

The Junts leader has charged the Republicans for now working “fast and running” to reach an agreement with the PSC. He has assured that when he held the Economy portfolio he warned that “the best thing would be a broad-spectrum agreement, without closing the door to the Socialists” and that “at that time, ERC thought it was a scandal“. “They said no, they wasted a lot of time and now they are in a hurry to agree,” he snapped.

Giró has reproached the Executive of Pere Aragonès for lacking “humility and culture of government”, since he considers that they have not compromised on several of Junts’ priorities, such as updating the support modules for the subsidized school or on fiscal elements. And he criticizes the fact that the Republicans are spreading the word that they have accepted about fifty of his proposals, when the number is not so important, but that they do not agree with the “fundamental” ones.

He does not reveal if he will be a candidate

The former ‘councillor’ of Economy has criticized those who have the vision that “nothing has to be negotiated with Madrid, that you do not have to agree”: “It is evident that you have to talk. I don’t know any other way to move forward than to dialogue, negotiate and agree; and the more power the other has, the more you have to negotiate,” he argues.

Giró, who was in favor of continuing in the Government before Junts consulted the militants, maintains that it would have been better to remain within the Executive. “Sometimes you have to swallow toads, assume contradictions.” And he has declared himself in favor of “occupying all possible spaces of political power.” On the other hand, he has asked to assume that the independence unit does not exist and that “it has practically never existed.”

In this sense and from a party point of view, Giró explained that he will decide if he wants to be a Junts candidate when there are primaries: “It will depend on how he sees the country, the family and the party.” He has also complained that there have been times when Junts “perhaps has focused too much on talking about particular and internal party issues.”

About the lawsuit against Laura Borras For an alleged division of contracts, which begins on February 10, Giró has asked that it be a procedure “just“. Asked if he will be able to maintain the presidency of the party if he ends up sentenced, the leader said that “she will know what she has to do depending on how the sentence is”.
