At the Metallica concert on Friday (Aug. 25), while Pantera played their set as the opening act, “Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa joined fans celebrating in the mosh pit. Momoa wasn’t the only star visiting the performance at SoFi Stadium in California. Also present were John Travolta (“Grease”), Adria Arjona (“Andor”) and Tom Sandoval (“Vanderpump Rules”).
Charlie Benante, drummer for Pantera, shared a post the following day Instagram: “@metallica @panteraofficial at the @sofistadium was amazing yesterday. In my wildest dreams I couldn’t have imagined that I would one day play there? But it gets even better: talking to @johntravolta about folding two slices of pizza together while we walked and ate was hilarious. If you’ve seen the intro of #saturdaynightfever you’ll understand. Watching Jason @prideofgypsies party in the pit was a highlight for me, definitely got me working harder — me [liebe] him. I can’t wait for @andorofficial Season 2 — @adriaarjona will be back as #bixcaleen. Nice to meet you. […] I had a great time.”
Jason Momoa had a history of professing to be a metal fan. He listened to a lot of Pantera and Metallica for his role as Conan in the remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic Conan the Barbarian. He recently took advice from Oli Peters, singer of the Canadian death metal band Archspire, for a better voice adjustment for his character in “See – Reich der Blinden”.
He also drew inspiration from the metal genre for Aquaman, specifically from Metallica’s debut album Kill ‘Em All and also the Tool song Ticks and Leeches. “Aquaman is pretty metal,” he told Metal Hammer. “I know nobody would agree, but Aquaman is metal.”
