Ice hockey legend, who started his professional career in the Czechoslovak premier league in the 1988–89 season Jaromir Jagr51, hints at a return to the rinks.
According to the Blesk magazine, the owner of Kladno, which plays in the Czech main league, Jagr has already confirmed that he will play this season, but it has not been known when the legend will play again in an official match.
Now Jagr poured water into the mill in a humorous update he published on social media.
– The general manager called me and said that I might have to play. “I weigh 121 pounds and I need to lose 10 pounds in 14 days,” Jagr wrote on Instagram.
However, according to Blesk magazine, the Kladno team owned by Jagr does not actually have a general manager.
In addition, Jagr joked that all he can eat for the next few days is salad.
Jagr also hinted that he could play in the Czech Republic’s second-highest league for Slavia Prague. Kladno and Slavia Praha have cooperated, and Slavia Praha has had players on loan from Kladno.
Last season, owner-player Jagr started his season in the ranks of Kladno on December 11. In the 2022–23 season, the fifties legend scored 5+9=14 power points in 26 main league matches.
Jagr reportedly doesn’t play for the love of the sport. Jagr opened up about his situation in the spring of 2021.
– Do you know why I still play? Jagr said in an interview with traditional Czech newspaper Lidové noviny.
– I am responsible for the club. Otherwise I wouldn’t chill here and embarrass myself. If I quit, the partners will leave and the legend of the club may end. I have no choice. People don’t get it, but I don’t care. Only God can judge Me. I expect more from myself and I also believe that I can do it, Jagr explained.
Jagr is from Kladno, and the legend’s family has strong ties to the city’s ice hockey club. Jaromir Jagr’s father, who died in November 2022, was once the chairman of the club.
Kladno is third last in the series after nine games played. In recent years, the club has also slipped down the league ladder, but now Kladno is in the third consecutive season in the country’s premier league.
Jagr turns 52 in February.
