Jari Sillanpää’s Porin concert will not be canceled – The basis is equality

Iskelmätähti’s tour lands in Pori despite the complaints, Satakunta Kansa reports.

Iskelmä singer Jari Sillanpää will perform at Pori Promenadikeskus in December. People of Satakunta reports that the singer’s performance has already generated feedback for the city of Pori.

Despite this, the city is not going to cancel Sillanpää’s concert. According to Satakunta Kansa, the matter has been discussed in the leadership group of the education industry.

– Based on equality, our hands are tied. He has received his sentence and suffered, we cannot by our own decision start judging again, head of the cultural unit Jyri Träskelin commented to Satakunta Kansa.

Träskelin points out in the interview that Sillanpää performed on the stage of Pori’s Kirjurinluoto summer theater earlier in September.

– At that time, the concert was almost sold out and there was no uproar about it. This new documentary has brought the old judgments to the surface again, he states.

Iltalehti reported last week about the tight situation of Sillanpää’s Christmas tour. The city of Hämeenlinna announced at the beginning of October that it would cancel Iskelmätähti’s concert at Verkatehta.

– We had a guiding conversation with our owner. Hämeenlinna is a child-friendly city. Due to these previous events, we saw that it is wisest not to bring the concert to Hämeenlinna by a company owned by the city, CEO of Verkatehtaa Janne Auvinen commented to Iltalehti at the time.

This is not the first time Sillanpää’s performance was canceled this fall.

The singer was also supposed to participate in a charity concert in Helsinki’s John’s Church in October, but this performance was canceled as well.

– Sillanpää’s participation in the concert caused a discussion and that discussion was one where the focus was not on cancer research and supporting cancer research, Cancer Foundation’s Communications Manager Carita Päivänensaid to Iltalehte.

Sillanpää’s manager and gig salesman Ulla Huttunen however, is not worried about ticket sales for the Christmas tour.

– In general, all cultural operators sell tickets closer to the event. This has remained the public’s way of acting since the corona years and others, Huttunen told Iltalehte last week.

The document shuddered

A four-part documentary series about Sillanpää was released this fall Silt, which dealt with the life of a shock star caught in the middle of turmoil. The singer’s criminal convictions from a few years ago made headlines again with the documentary.

In March 2020, the iskelmä star was sentenced for spreading an image that violates sexual decency. He was sentenced to a 45-day fine for the act.

The singer commented on the verdict for Länsiväylä magazine in March of this year.

– The matter cannot be underestimated, but it has only happened during 5 or 10 minutes, when I sat on the computer and took a picture of the stream [puhelimeeni]. I deleted the pictures after less than 24 hours, but I still have to carry that reputation for the rest of my life, Sillanpää told Länsiväylä.

The ex-tango king was sentenced to a 10-month suspended prison sentence for a drug offense in 2018. He opened up about his drug use Arto Nyberg’s on the talk show in September of last year.

– There had been a separation. I suffered in my own skin for a couple of years. Friends who were in Bangkok contacted me. They had heard that I wasn’t feeling well and asked for company. Then methamphetamine was offered, then it was off, Sillanpää stated in the program.
