In honor of the Seinäjoki Tango market’s 40th birthday, the celebratory concert features around 30 tango royalty.

Seinäjoki Tangomarkkinat is celebrating its 40th birthday with a celebration concert. The concert will take place from 10 to 14. July.
Tango Areena’s gala concert will feature 27 tango royalty. Among others, the concert will perform Kuko Simonen, Arja Koriseva, Marita Taavitsainen, Saija Tuupanen, Mäkimattila asked as well as those crowned last year Charlotte Island and Pasi Flodström.
Among the performers is also the tango king of 1995 Jari Sillanpää. The artist had many concerts canceled last fall, because the singer’s criminal convictions came up again Siltwith the documentary. Sillanpää has received criminal convictions for drunk driving, drug offenses and spreading an image offensive to sexual immorality.

Iltalehti reached out to the CEO of Tangomarkkint Pasi Ojalan, which explains why the company decided to include Sillanpää as part of its performing guard.
– Jari Sillanpää is one of Finland’s most successful, if not the most successful, tango royalty. Of course, the tango people and Jari’s fans want to see him at the celebratory concert, he reasons.
Ojala says that Tangomarkkinat couldn’t help but notice the buzz of autumn. They ended up including Sillanpää in their performer guard regardless.
– This did not affect our decision. Sentences have been given and served years ago. We go ahead with the artistic side and with what our customers want, he states.
Are you worried about how the public will react to your decision?
– Jari has been performing with us in 2022 and 2023, and the audience has reacted to it in a very positive way. There have been a lot of people watching, and the popularity has been very strong, Ojala commented at the end.
