Saario had a crazy time at sea.
Jari Saario shared a photo on Instagram of his hand, which was damaged while crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
The picture is part of the “Christmas calendar”, where Saario goes through his amazing rowing career. The theme of the calendar is “Home for Christmas” – a promise that he finally kept, even though the trip ended a little prematurely.
– Day 10. Captain Hook. The middle finger of the left hand got caught in the strap of the life raft when leaving, and you knew right away that something was torn apart. In that situation, it didn’t even occur to me that the rowing was interrupted because of the finger.
Saario says that he was lucky that the finger did not swell completely out of shape. The pain did not bother the austere skipper.
– And in the end, the finger fit the oar like that better than well, he adds.
– Later in the country, the hand surgeon said that the tendon had torn off, and nothing could have been done, even if I had gone to the doctor immediately. The finger is now hooked for the rest of its life and a memory of the weld. It doesn’t affect everyday life much.
Saario’s fans were amazed by the picture and even found humor in it.
– Now you’re also skilled at finger hooks, someone would grumble.
– Another proof of how hearty you are, Jari, another praised.
