Janny van der Heijden did not make a physical appearance in the semi-finals of Heel Holland Bakt last night. Tina Nijkamp finds it really unprecedented that these recordings have continued.
André van Duin and Robèrt van Beckhoven not only had to do without one of the candidates, but also without their colleague Janny van der Heijden in the semi-final of Heel Holland Bakt last night. Both semi-finalist Zineb and the jury member were at home with a virus and could therefore not be present at the recordings.
Bit wrong
The viewers were immediately informed by André at the start of the HHB semi-final. “It will be a very special semi-final, because we are a little bit wrong, aren’t we? We actually have a kind of sick tent. We all have sick. The one sick person is already standing next to me, or at least: he is not standing next to me. That’s Johnny.”
He continues: “Janny is ill, she is not here. And Zineb isn’t there either, that’s our baker. But Janny is actually there, because Janny, Janny! We have a live connection with Janny, directly.”
‘How is this possible?’
The fact that Janny is there via a live connection on the iPad does not make it good, according to TV expert Tina Nijkamp. The former channel boss of SBS 6 does not understand anything about it. “Why did they let these shooting days go on? Normally, TV production companies take out Non-Appearance insurance,” she writes on her opinion channel.
What is that? “That means that in the event of the illness of a key person, the damage caused by not recording on a planned admission day is compensated. Isn’t it accidentally closed? I find it all a bit strange, it is the semi-final of a program that more than 3 (!) Million people watch.”
To the final
It is also strange that André initially did not make it clear what the status of candidate Zineb is due to her illness, thinks Tina. “It only becomes clear at the end, although oddly enough Zineb is not there via an iPad connection: everyone goes through to the final. Oh okay. As far as I am concerned, this broadcast could have been clearer.”
She continues: “Actually, it was just an episode that didn’t matter in terms of competition. Everything is always fun with André and Janny, so it was fine and funny TV, but moving the recording day would have been more competitive in terms of competition.”
All in all, the semi-final of Heel Holland Bakt attracted more than 2.8 million viewers (44 percent market share). The most watched alternative was The Floor with 946 thousand viewers (16 percent) on RTL 4.
