Janna and Maarit Hurmerinta talk about motherhood

Janna says that she learned a lot from her mother about both motherhood and her music career.

Maarit and Janna Hurmerinta are not only long-standing musicians, but above all a mother and daughter. Maarit won the Special Emma Award at this year’s Emma Gala. He tells Iltalehti that he is embarrassed and happy about the award.

– This is your Mother’s Day gift from other people, then I came up with something for Sunday! Janna congratulates her mother on the award.

Maarit and Janna say they have always spent Mother’s Day together. Maarit recalls that Janna has come up with various surprises and gifts since she was a little girl. At times, they have been eating at a restaurant, but because of the crowds, the family usually celebrates at home.

– He made wonderful cards even before he was a farmer. There has always been some lovely little special thing, no diamonds though. Mother’s Day is a wonderful celebration and the whole family is close to each other, Maarit recalls.

– We’re like a shirt and a butt! There is a slight twist at times, but usually an hour after it has already been agreed, he continues.

A little charmer at home

Janna is also a mother today. Janna and her wife Noahboy was born well in advance of a holiday trip in France in July 2019. Janna’s husband is French.

– I’ve always been conscientious on Mother’s Day. This year, I expect my husband and son to make me breakfast! Janna reveals.

Maarit and Sami Hurmerintä called grandparents in French by the name “Mami and Papi”. Maarit describes her grandchild as a brown-eyed charmer.

– Yesterday she had watched when Janna had arranged different dresses for the gala. The boy had looked at his mother and said “Wow!” as well as applauded, Maarit says with a laugh.

– At least the support teams at home are fine. He is a very gentleman and knows how to choose his words at the very right time. She still has three languages ​​a little confused, but things like that are handled, Janna continues.

At the top of the priority list

Janna says motherhood feels like “the best thing in the world”. She admits that before motherhood, she stared a lot at the chart rankings of her songs and focused all her energy on her career. Maarit agrees with her daughter.

– Now the priorities are somewhere other than in my career. That little boy at home is the most important thing in the world. I can look at life and art career from different angles, maybe healthier than before the child, Janna says.

Maarit says that she sees similar features in Janna as a mother as in herself.

– I have laughed many times about how you have that love, but also the awkwardness in that upbringing, Maarit describes her daughter as a mother.

Role model in career

Janna believes she is a better artist now than before the child, as she says “creativity is more unleashed”. Janna also says that she learned many things from her mother for her artistic career.

– Yes, in the early stages of my career, I did everything alone. I had to stand out and build my own career independently, not using my mother’s or father’s contacts. It was really important to me that I did everything alone, I went to schools alone without even telling me, Janna recalls.

Janna reveals that she only told about the recording contract when she got her parents about her future music career.

– I made sure no one could say I got a record deal by being their daughter.
