Jan Zwiers new mayor of Central Drenthe

Jan Zwiers will succeed Mieke Damsma as the new mayor. The 56-year-old resident of Aalden was nominated tonight by the confidential committee of the city council.

Zwiers is currently an alderman in the municipality of Hoogeveen. He was chosen from 21 candidates and is called a mayor by the confidential committee of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe who puts people at ease and who can keep control in a meeting.

“Zwiers is the perfect candidate for us,” says Robert Brouwer, chairman of the confidential committee. “He comes across as a warm personality, can connect people and has an eye for fellow human beings. We find that important in Midden-Drenthe.”

In a first reaction, Zwiers says he is happy. “I know Midden-Drenthe well, I don’t get lost there. But now I’m really going to discover it. We’re going to see where we get together.”
