Jan Versteegh does not climb out of the viewing swamp: ‘It feels fake’

Jan Versteegh laughs the Lingo balls out of his pants that his TV contract is extended time and time again. According to tube whisperer Tina Nijkamp, it continues to worry about his ratings.

It’s not easy for Jan Versteegh: he has never managed to score a ratings hit, but he is still much too young to lose his television contract and a normal job is the ultimate failure for Dutch celebrities. Will he succeed as the successor to Leonie ter Braak in the television show Children Buy a House? No Unfortunately.

Moderate start

The premiere of ‘Kinderkopen Een Huis’ with Jan as presenter attracted 453 thousand viewers (9.9 percent market share) to SBS 6 last night. Joost Maiburg, RTL Boulevard’s viewing figures expert, speaks of a ‘moderate start‘ and the authoritative viewing figures professor Tina Nijkamp is not impressed either.

According to Tina, things are not going well. “Just like predecessor Leonie ter Braak, Jan Versteegh is babbling on with Children Buying a House. It has never been a hit. Until The Interior Project VIPS, it was the only residential program that did not score. Even now only 453 thousand viewers and only 9.4 percent market share in 20 to 54 years.”

‘Feels fake’

Tina doesn’t think the format is good enough. The program revolves around the fact that not the parents, but the children take control in the search for a new home. But in the end everyone knows that they are not about that at all, of course. And that kills the format, thinks the viewing figures expert.

She writes: “Why does this score so poorly? Simply because viewers I don’t think want to believe that this is real, it feels too much like pre-planned when maybe it isn’t. Still, I think it comes across as fake.”

‘Wierd does not score’

It is striking that immediately afterwards SBS 6 scored more than a million viewers for the third evening in a row with Today Inside. Monday it worked with Mark Rutte as a guest, Tuesday with Özcan Akyol and this time with Valentijn Driessen.

Wierd Duk will lower the score tonight, says Tina. “Tonight 1 million plus I think will be difficult. The guest at the table is Wierd Duk and he usually scores less high than Özcan or Valentijn.”
