“Mauk does not contain too many words and yet you are captivated by the richness of the language,” says jury chairman Van Engelshoven about the award-winning novel. “The jury has chosen the book that is an ode to the power of literature, written in a flawless style and beautifully composed.”
The Boekenbon Literature Prize is the successor to the AKO Literature Prize, which was first awarded in 1987 and which rewards the best Dutch-language literary book of the year. Last year the award went to Anjet Daanje, for her book ‘The song of stork and dromedary’.
The award-winning author wins an amount of 50,000 euros.
