Jan Smit gets a big blow from AD journalist: ‘A bit bizarre’

Jan Smit gets a big twist on his ears from Marcus den Blanken, the right hand of Angela de Jong at the AD. He criticizes the KiKa special of Best Singers. “This is a bit bizarre.”

The television hit Best Singers came with a one-off special last night to support the KiKa charity in the fight against childhood cancer. Presenter Jan Smit and a number of other well-known artists sang songs together, while viewers at home were called upon to donate money. 1.3 million people watched it.

‘This is bizarre’

AD media journalist Marcus den Blanken also watched, but is disappointed. “Idea for next year: record Best Singers special in the Netherlands. Talk to children dealing with cancer. Ask for songs that give them power. Make your own version of that and sing it for those kids and their families. (Snipped from our southern neighbours VAT),” he tweeted.

Marcus thinks it’s a missed opportunity. “I find it a bit bizarre that you fly to Seville with a number of artists, band and camera team and then ask for money. And that the people concerned are not there.”

No criticism

After this spicy criticism, Marcus says that this is not a criticism. “My previous tweets are not a criticism of the Best Singers or Jan Smit. It’s very good that they are doing this. And the films are moving, the songs beautiful.”

Isn’t it only good that Jan is so committed to charity? “That’s why it was also an idea for next year. I am very happy with the report that the lines are overloaded, that there are massive calls. But I was really ready with the idea that it would be like Red Nose Day in Belgium, so I was shocked by the setup.”
