Broadcaster MAX boss Jan Slagter, a confidant of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, launches a fierce attack on NPO boss Frederieke Leeflang. According to him, she is not telling the truth. “Lies!”
Jan Slagter is very disappointed that it was not possible to keep Matthijs van Nieuwkerk at the public broadcaster. The report on the working atmosphere at the NPO has already been postponed and since NPO boss Frederieke Leeflang has said in the media that Matthijs will not be allowed to return before then, he has now opted for an RTL contract.
Mega Matthijs fine
Those tough words from Frederieke in the media conflict somewhat with the revelation that she was secretly involved in discussions about Matthijs’ return. Precisely because it is so conflicting, there was even a confidentiality contract; if someone said something about it in the media, that person had to pay 50,000 euros.
At whose request was that? Jan pointed to Frederieke in the AD this week: “Frederieke had to keep it all secret, because she always said that discussions with Matthijs were only allowed after the outcome of Van Rijn’s report. If it came out, she would lose face.”
Frederieke denies
Frederieke denies Jan’s allegation. According to her, this secrecy was at the request of producer Medialane, where Matthijs is under contract. The NPO thought ‘confidentiality was fine, but not to be secretive. This is normal,” her spokesperson said NRC.
Well, now Jan’s clog breaks. “Chairman Leeflang does not tell the truth in the NRC. The confidentiality statement was a strict demand from her to be allowed to talk to Matthijs about a program package,” he claims on X.
Lying boss?
So the boss of the NPO is just a liar? Yes, says Jan. According to him, this really does not come from the producer. “Matthijs also spoke to SBS and RTL, without a confidentiality agreement. Same producer!”
In fact, NPO bosses Remco van Westerloo and Remco van Leen spoke to Matthijs without the producer, according to Jan. “#lie #npo #livelong.”
Holy shit
Angela de Jong doesn’t believe anything about Frederieke, she writes in her AD column. She plays the ‘holy bean’ in front of the stage, she writes, “but behind the scenes she casually gives permission to negotiate a return with the fallen star. Welcome to the snake pit called Media Park.”
What does she think of Jan’s attack? “This accusation, even in public, is unprecedented by NPO standards. That only means one thing: Jan is on the warpath and everyone should know about it. And all this at a time when a coalition is in the making that already has little or no love for the NPO.”
Give up a job?
Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden believes that Frederieke has fallen through the ice. “It’s a bit lame of Frederieke, because she said in the Volkskrant a few months ago: ‘We will only start talking again when that investigation is complete,’” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.
Private boss Evert Santegoeds then said: “Yes, and there are more affairs surrounding her, so I wonder how long Leeflang will live at the public broadcaster, because she has made a few faux-pas now and she is also lost Matthijs, so it was all for nothing.”
