Jan Roelof Kruithof honored with a name plate in his hometown of Havelte

A memorable day in village café ‘t Knooppunt in Havelte. For the first time in 38 years, the volunteers and skaters of the Labello team are back together.

Also skater Jan Roelof Kruithof, he won the Alternatieve Elfstedentocht eleven times and skated 655 kilometers in 24 hours, he is still the record holder. What he does not know, however, is that something has been organized especially for him. Kruithof gets his own placard with his name on it. Why? At that question, initiator Roelof Prikken laughs: “Yes, well… That man has simply delivered top performances.” “He certainly deserved this,” adds teammate Tinus Oosting. “That man has won so many games!”

Prikken has been working on the nameplate for about a year now. “It all started with the fishmonger on Piet Soerplein,” says the initiator. “Suddenly one of the waiting customers at the fishmonger said: ‘They can also make such a plate for Kruuthof, which performs better than that Soer.'”

No sooner said than done. Prikken set to work together with Tinus Oosting from the Labello team. A sign for Kruithof has been realized and what could be better than handing it out during the reunion.
