In September it’s that time again, when the Grand Prix of Zandvoort takes place. In our program ‘Icons’ we spoke with motorsport legend Jan Lammers. Lammers is closely involved with the organization of the Grand Prix and explains what will change this year.
“It is of course fantastic for motorsport,” Lammers tells NH Nieuws. “But it is also our goal to keep in touch in the region with the people who have nothing to do with it. We hope that they will grant us a moment.”
Fortunately, last time it went well, Lammers notes. “Only 5 percent of the visitors came by car. We want to build on that.”
The second edition of the Grand Prix will be held on September 2, 3 and 4, 2022. The Dutch Grand Prix will be dominated by ‘The Ultimate Race Festival’. This means not only the best drivers in the world in Formula 1 and of course the presence of other spectacular racing classes, but also performances by various artists and a packed offer in the fan zone.
Changes
“In terms of locations, things have been arranged differently for a better throughput”, Lammers says about the upcoming Grand Prix. The volunteers will also be better deployed during the event. “Where you needed two, there were six and where you needed six, there were two,” Lammers recalls.
The stands will also look different from previous editions. “You can sit in the dunes in the traditional, recognizable Zandvoort way,” says Lammers.
The event is getting closer and closer, but Lammers is not suffering from nerves. “It will go as it happens.”
