What Linda de Mol cannot do, Jan Jaap van der Wal does. At least, he hoped so. Unfortunately, his series about the television world is also a terrible flop. And he responds to that in a clichéd way…
After the flop of the Linda de Mol series Five Live, you would expect that television makers would give up making a drama series about their own world, but nothing could be further from the truth. Jan Jaap van der Wal is currently on the channel with the series Voor De Show and it all has really bad scores.
Jan Jaap responds
Voor De Show kicked off last week with 439 thousand viewers on the country’s most watched TV channel NPO 1 and ratings authority Tina Nijkamp has written a scathing piece about it. And Jan Jaap was allowed to respond to this last night in the talk show Khalid & Sophie, after a question about it from Khalid Kasem.
Khalid: “As a talk show host you also have to have a thick skin. A lot is written and said about you. The viewing figures… You were of course also last week… A lot was written about this program. Do you do something with that criticism further in the talk show?
Childish
Jan Jaap reacts very clichéd to his low viewing figures. It still needs time, etcetera. “Well… I don’t want to make it too personal and childish, but you just have to…”
He continues: “With new things, I think you should always give it a chance, you just have to look: what are these people doing and why are they doing it, how does that develop? At least I grew up in that time. It is an incredibly fun program, it really is.”
Very nice
It’s really fun, says Jan Jaap. “We’re recording it, you know, so I’ve already recorded four. I know what’s coming. It’s getting really crazy. Just give it time. It’s a lot of fun to watch.”
Well, the viewer is clearly less enthusiastic, because the viewing figures dropped considerably last night, Tina reports. She writes on her analysis channel: “What a horror year for NPO 1. Which new program became a ratings hit? Unfortunately, it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. De Show is definitely not a ratings hit.”
Through the ice
Things are going really badly, says Tina. “After last week’s low 439 thousand viewers, Jan Jaap van der Wal’s show (which is too similar to Linda de Mol’s Five Live and, I think, too focused on people from Amsterdam) has now definitively fallen through the ice with only 366 thousand viewers. Despite the promo with Khalid & Sophie.”
Jan Jaap also only scores a 7.8 percent market share in the commercial target group 25 to 54 years old. “This is not going to work out anymore. The NPO 1 viewer has spoken and cannot identify with this enough.”
