The four heifers that escaped from the meadow of the brothers Jan and Frans Klaasen last Friday are back. “The latter walked up to someone who was working in the garden this Saturday, that person called a colleague and we picked her up there,” says Jan. They are relieved that the cows have been found again.
It sounds like the beginning of a fun children’s film: seventeen young cows escape from the meadow and experience all kinds of adventures. But for Jan and Frans it was not a nice story at all when the telephone rang with the question whether they missed cows. “The past few days have been busy and exciting. It keeps you constantly busy,” explains Jan. Thirteen cows were soon found, but four remained missing.
“Hopefully this never happens again.”
A big call followed to quickly find those last four cows. The heifers are about one year and four months old. “They are just two months pregnant so still have about seven months to go.” The last four young cows hadn’t really gone very far. “There is a large nature reserve nearby, we found a number there. So the latter had just walked up to someone.”
Now the cows are safely back in their own home pasture. “It is a great relief that we have all our cows back,” says Jan. It remains to be seen whether the cows need to put on the naughty ones again and go on an adventure. “Hopefully this never happens again.”
