Jan Biggel sang his hit thousands of times: ‘I’m not bored’

If Jan Biggel’s mother were still alive, she would have said: ‘A guest in Kraak? Boy don’t do that. But Jan Biggel did it anyway and was a guest on the talk show of Omroep Brabant on Sunday. The singing plasterer Jan van den Biggelaar from Liempde has become a welcome guest at parties and that is all because of the hit: ‘Ons mother sea yet’.

The popularity of singer Jan Biggel now extends far beyond the borders of Brabant. His agenda for the coming year is packed with performances. And the audience only wants one thing: to hear the song ‘Ons mother zej nog’. With that song, Van den Biggelaar, the real name of the singer, stormed the Brabant Top 100. Out of nowhere he came in second. It’s a song that gets in your head and doesn’t just go out again “I sing that song twice per performance. I’ve sung it thousands of times. It doesn’t bore me,” says Jan himself.

“I’ve never been normal.”

Jan Biggel no longer needs to work as a plasterer. He has exchanged his tools for a microphone. “I heard that a hundred thousand new houses are being built in the Netherlands. I can’t handle that on my own. That’s why I started singing,” laughs the popular singer. Is the fact that he has remained so normal the secret behind his success? “I’ve never been normal.”

In CRACK. His friendship with Arno Sloot, who died in January, is also discussed. “We worked together as a plasterer. We had a lot of fun. In between we worked occasionally. Sometimes we were already in the pub by eleven o’clock.” In addition to being a plasterer, Arno was also active as a folk singer.

“I wrote all my songs myself. I have an endless fantasy!”

Two years ago corona broke out and the catering industry closed. “Then I had a problem,” says Jan. “I was in the pub for seven days. Then I started writing stories on Facebook and that appealed to me. That has developed further and at a certain point I started writing songs. I wrote all my songs myself. endless fantasy!”
