The sudden death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins sparked reactions around the world. Tribute was also paid to the late rocker in actor James Corden’s “Late Late Show”.
James Corden honors Taylor Hawkins with farewell speech
On the March 28 show, three days after the drummer’s death, Corden shared emotional words about Hawkins’ tragic loss as well as a video of him. It was created as part of his “Late Late Show” and shows Taylor Hawkins and frontman Dave Grohl playing drums together in a music store.
Corden opened up about Taylor Hawkins’ death and said he was “shocked and saddened” when he heard the news. “You’ve read a lot about Taylor and everything you’ve read is true – he was a bright light. He lit up every room he walked into. He was so joyful and full of light and love and all the things you want in a person.”
Carpool Karaoke with the Foo Fighters
Then he presented the video. It is an excerpt from a contribution that was made in 2017 for the Late Night Show. The Foo Fighters recorded a “carpool karaoke” with Corden, a well-known format in which musicians are driven around in the car by the host and sing the hits of the respective artist together.
After imaginary drums were used during the karaoke and Grohl asked Corden if he played drums himself, the van pulls up in front of a music store. Corden defiantly says in the video that while he’s never played real drums himself, he can “kick their ass because the rhythm” is in his blood. Three drums can then be seen in the shop, which are then played alternately by the three.
