Jakobsen sprints to victory in Hungary, Kooij involved in massive crash | NOW

Fabio Jakobsen won the second stage in the Tour of Hungary on Thursday. The Dutchman was the strongest in a bunch sprint. The ride was marred by a massive crash in the final kilometer.

After 192 kilometers from Karcag to Hajdúszoboszló, 25-year-old Jakobsen left the Frenchman Rudy Barbier (second) and the Belgian Sasha Weemaes (third) behind.

At 700 meters from the finish there was a heavy crash in the peloton. Several Jumbo-Visma riders were involved in this. Among them was Olav Kooij, who won the opening stage in Hungary on Wednesday.

Kooij, the leader in the general classification, remained on the asphalt, just like some other Jumbo-Visma riders. It is not yet known what injuries they sustained.

Jakobsen was not affected by the crash and raced to his seventh victory of the season. Earlier this year he won Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, a stage in Paris-Nice and two stages in both the Tour of Valencia and the Tour of the Algarve.

The Tour of Hungary lasts until Sunday.
