“Fancy giving up at a traditional club”
After Sidney Raebiger (17), RB Leipzig also announced the departure of Frederik Jäkel. The 21-year-old central defender will join Arminia Bielefeld on loan next season. As the Bundesliga relegated announced, the club secured a purchase option for the right foot, who had been loaned to KV Oostende for the past two years. Jäkel’s contract with the Saxons runs until 2024.
“Frederik has made a big step forward in men’s football in Belgium and has progressed very well in a very intense league. As a young German defender, he is far from having reached the end of his development. So we are very happy that Frederik will now continue his path with us in the Arminia jersey,” said sporting director Samir Arabi about the German junior international, who played a total of 43 games (three goals/one assist) for the Belgians .
Jäkel, who has not yet played a game for the Leipzig professionals, added: “I’m in the mood for the new task at this traditional club. I’m looking forward to the fans and my new teammates. The last two years in Belgium were a great experience in men’s football for me, but it was clear that I wanted to return to Germany. The talks with Samir Arabi and Uli Forte were very good right from the start, it just felt right straight away.”
Demirovic, Krauss & Co.: Most valuable professionals from RB Leipzig’s youth
In addition to Jäkel and Raebiger and the already permanent loan from Tom Krauss (20) to FC Schalke 04, Eric Martel (20) is also likely to leave the “Red Bulls”. Martel, who has been on loan at Austria Wien for the past year and a half, is about to say goodbye to 1. FC Köln.
