Jail sentences for shooting an apartment where children were watching TV

The court in Den Bosch has convicted two men for shelling an apartment on Hadewijchstraat in Den Bosch. The resident and his two small children were sitting there watching television. The men aged 23 and 25 from Germany and Zoetermeer have to go to jail for two years.

A third 33-year-old man from Ammerzoden was sentenced to sixteen months in prison for his role in the shooting. He gave, among other things, the address and a photo of the apartment to the other perpetrators. The three perpetrators are two brothers and a cousin.

On Saturday, September 12, 2020 at a quarter to eleven in the evening, four shots were fired at the apartment. According to the judge, there was ‘a great risk that someone would be fatally injured’. Reason for the court to ‘come to these tough sentences’.

Soon after the shooting, the police indicated that the reason for the shooting was probably a long-term conflict in the relationship.

Cars set on fire
During the lawsuit it became clear that in September 2020 the cars of the 33-year-old man from Ammerzoden and his girlfriend were set on fire. According to him, his girlfriend’s ex-husband was behind it. The next day he called his brother and his cousin. They called the ex-husband several times and threatened him with death. The next night, the ex-husband’s apartment was shot at.

The court finds it proven that the two men shot at the apartment. This is to threaten and intimidate the resident, the ex-husband, not to kill him.

Bullets flew through living room
However, according to the ruling, there were three attempted murders. Two of the four bullets flew at body height through the living room, where the ex-husband and his children were sitting in front of the television.

In determining the sentences, the court took into account that the suspects ‘wanted to play before their own judge in a completely unacceptable way’. According to the judge, they caused great danger by shooting a firearm in the middle of the street in a residential area.
