Jack van Gelder about Frans Klein temporarily stepping down: ‘Weak bag’

Jack van Gelder does not think it is sufficient that Frans Klein has only temporarily resigned his position as television boss of the NPO. “It’s just a first-class weak bag,” he grumbles.

There is a lot of controversy about Frans Klein, the television boss of the NPO. Critics think he should resign because he has looked away for years from the terrible events on the editorial board of De Wereld Draait Door. There will now be an external investigation and during that investigation, which must be completed before April, Frans will temporarily stop working.

Floppy bag

Not enough, says Jack van Gelder in the talk show HLF8. “He has only stepped back for a while. It’s just a first class floppy bag. He was ultimately responsible at BNNVARA, seems to have known it all and he pushed it all away. He has not taken anything or anyone seriously.”

He continues: “Matthijs was driven by a huge ambition or by a deviation that he has, but this man was responsible for it. It’s going back for a while now, but will come back in a while. This man is a coward and he should have left. He has left all those who have been painted by Matthijs out in the cold.”

Embarrassing

That Frans should just pack his bags for good, says Jack. “There was no awareness. Embarrassing. My point is that he can’t go back there. He was ultimately responsible. That is simply not possible.”

Bert van der Veer agrees with Frans. He says in RTL Boulevard: “You can at least say that Matthijs has said that he is sorry. I don’t think I’ve heard that from Frans Klein yet.”

Small success

It seems that Frans mainly resigned because after the Nieuwsuur performance by Suzanne Kunzeler, the boss of BNNVARA, he could hardly do otherwise. “You can call that a small success from Suzanne,” says TV connoisseur Rob Goossens in RTL Boulevard. “There was no other option for Frans than to temporarily suspend his work.”

Colleague Luuk Ikink: “But is that temporary? In theory, that research has already been done once by de Volkskrant. I don’t think anything very different will come out of that research.”

Logical step

Albert Verlinde calls it logical in HLF8 that Frans retires. “I think it’s a logical step, especially after the knife stabbed in his back by Mrs Kunzeler at Nieuwsuur. She basically just said he can’t stay put as far as she’s concerned. Yes, then you are already weakened. If you say it that way en plein public, then I don’t think it’s chic in terms of administrators among themselves.”

Hart van Nederland reporter Sam Hagens: “But in terms of content it was a logical reaction, wasn’t it?”

Albert: “In terms of content, it can be a logical response, but you can also prepare each other for what you are going to do.”

And Fidan Ekiz: “I think it is a logical step that he is now resigning from his duties, because the main focus will of course be on him in the coming period.”
