“This is the largest operation ever in the history of the city of Izegem and greatly expands the historical city archive with valuable information,” opens Alderman of Archives Kurt Himpe. In a first phase, the city inventories and repackages the collection. Volunteers will then help process all files. They will certainly have their hands full with it for a while.
“The goal is to ultimately digitize everything and enter it into the provincial archive database. Everyone can discover what there is to find from the comfort of their own home,” concludes Himpe.
