Ivar Slik takes unofficial gravel world title after incredible wear and tear

After more than nine hours of cycling on gravel roads, Ivar Slik has won Unbound Gravel. It is the first time that a Dutchman has won the unofficial world championship. Oudorper Laurens ten Dam was fourth in the American Kansas.

Slik from Bergen was in the leading group with Ian Boswell (last year’s winner), Alexey Vermeulen and Keegan Swenson. In the final phase of the 320 kilometers long race, Ten Dam was able to join. Due to a lot of rain recently, the trail was very muddy. It also rained during the match, making it an extra heavy edition of Unbound Gravel.

In the final sprint, Slik was too fast for the competition. Swenson and Boswell were second and third. Eight seconds behind, Ten Dam crossed the finish line in fourth.

Born Dirkshorner Thomas Dekker became 31st. He came in almost 48 minutes after Slik.
