Ivan Hasek will coach the Czech national football team at the European Championships (June 14th to July 14th) in Germany. As the association announced, the 60-year-old signed a contract until the end of qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
This is Hasek’s second engagement as coach of his home country, having already stepped in as an interim solution for five games in 2009.
Successor to Jaroslav Silhavy
His predecessor Jaroslav Silhavy resigned in November 2023 despite successfully qualifying for the European Championship. “It is a great honor to lead the Czech national team because it is the highlight of any coach’s career”said Hasek. As captain, Hasek led Czechoslovakia to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Italy in 1990 (0-1 against Germany).
Highlights of his coaching career, which has been ongoing since 1999, include stints at Sparta Prague, Racing Strasbourg and the Lebanon national team. At the European Championships, the Czechs will face Portugal, Turkey and a playoff winner in Group F.
