its role, responsibilities and skills

Many companies today have adopted the Scrum methodological framework. The objective of this agile method is to improve the productivity of the teams and to help them carry out tasks with high added value. It encourages employees to move forward together in carrying out a project.

For this, the agile Scrum approach will work in an iterative and incremental way in order to propose at each “sprint”, or stage, a first iteration of the product or project. As the customer approves, the following sprints allow to enrich the first elements put in place. This makes working more fluid and productive. However, it is necessary to have a good team of developers, a Product Owner and a Scrum Master. The latter has a central role in the outcome of the projects. Back on its role, its missions and its skills.

What is a Scrum Master?

The Scrum Master differs from the simple role of manager. He is the leader of the Agile Scrum methodology and must ensure its implementation and proper functioning. Above all, he must ensure that each employee has understood the project in progress internally, both at the level of management and of the teams. To do this, he guarantees transparent communication between them and ensures their proper involvement. It also helps them respect the principles of the Scrum approach.

It should therefore be said that a Scrum Master ensures the smooth running of a project. To meet this challenge and learn how to manage relationships within an agile team, it is possible to attend a Scrum Master.

What are the missions of a Scrum Master?

In parallel, a Scrum Master has multiple other roles. First, he must ensure the sprint planning meeting. These meetings are simply intended to properly prepare a sprint. Then, he organizes daily scrum in order to know the progress of the sprint and to identify the blocking points. He also takes care of the sprint retrospective. Concretely, this makes it possible to discuss the last sprint so that each employee can know what worked or not in the organization. This way they can improve during the project.

He also collaborates with the Product Owner on the product backlog. This is a list of items needed to achieve the goals. They should be regularly updated as the project progresses. To do this, the Scrum Master helps employees sort through the different tasks in the product backlog during the sprint planning process.

What are the skills of a Scrum Master?

As with all professions, specific skills are required to be a Scrum Master. Above all, it is of course necessary to know the workings of the agile Scrum method in order to apply it correctly within a company. He must also succeed in setting up the agile rituals, that is to say the sprint planning, the daily scrum or the retrospective sprint.

Teamwork being at the heart of Scrum, the Scrum Master must be transparent and educated with collaborators. It should clearly communicate important information to them and help them identify and overcome any obstacles that arise. For this reason, it is essential to have interpersonal skills, but also technical knowledge of the environment in which it operates.

It should therefore be said that a Scrum Master puts employees on the path to success. Thanks to his skills, he allows a company to have a more efficient organization and to adopt an agile state of mind, useful in the development of a project.
