Wilfred Genee is very disappointed with the news that Televizier only wants to evaluate the rules for spin-offs such as Today Inside after the upcoming presentation. “This is mustard after the meal.”
In fact, Wilfred Genee had high hopes that his daily talk show Today Inside would be nominated for the Gouden Televizier-Ring this year, but the program has been excluded from the election. This has to do with the fact that the program is too similar to its predecessor, Voetbal International, which won the prize in 2011.
Spin-off or new?
For the same reason, The Evening Show with Arjen Lubach, for example, does not stand a chance. However, there is discussion about whether Today Inside and Arjen Lubach’s program can be seen as a spin-off. Aren’t these really just completely new programs?
Editor-in-chief Jeroen de Goeij of Televizier will only think about it after the upcoming award ceremony, he tells the ANP. “We are not going to change the rules of the game during the match. But we always evaluate the award afterwards. And we will certainly include the discussion around VI and Lubach.”
Rules
Will the regulations be amended then? “The rules have been clear since 1964: the same program cannot win twice. But we may be able to formulate more clearly the criteria about whether something is a spin-off or not.”
If Today Inside does have a chance next year, it may already be too late, Wilfred responds at The Telegraph. “It’s mustard after meals. With the advanced age of certain table companions, the next election is still light years away.”
‘Very strange’
Wilfred thinks it’s a miss from Televizier. “It remains strange that the two best-scoring talk shows in the Netherlands, which are demonstrably different in frequency, content and design from the programs from the past, are not competing.”
Telegraaf journalist Jordi Versteegden agrees with him. “In any case, I think it should be a prize from the public and in recent years… Last year you also had the riot of Gossip Talk, who were not even allowed to participate. Then I think: it must remain a prize from the public.”
Vacation
Wilfred is currently on vacation. “He’s on vacation. I also got pictures from some tropical island where he is now.”
Today Inside returns to the air in mid-August. That month competitor RTL 4 does not have a late talk show on the menu. Eva Jinek will only start broadcasting again on August 29.
