Thursday morning was the busiest morning rush of the year. More than a third of all those traffic jams were located within the provincial borders of Brabant. It seems old-fashioned busy on the highways again, as if there has never been a lockdown, work from home advice or corona crisis. According to the ANWB, it is even busier on the road here than before corona.
Arnoud Broekhuis also sees that it is old-fashioned busy. He is manager of the ANWB traffic information. He says that Brabant is now already above the traffic jam level compared to the month of April of 2019, before the corona crisis.
The ANWB measures the congestion on the roads not only by the number of kilometers that are lined up in traffic jams each morning, but by the so-called traffic jam density. That traffic jam density is the distance of the traffic jam times the time you are in it, explains Broekhuis. “That way we get the best idea of how busy it really is on the highways.”
And that is quite disappointing after corona. “Just keep in mind that you’re just stuck in traffic every morning,” says Arnoud. According to him, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest. “On these days, most people drive to work,” he explains.
If you want to avoid traffic jams, Tuesday and Thursday are the best days to work from home, if your work permits. “This way we spread the traffic more, resulting in fewer traffic jams.”
Most traffic jams in Brabant are structurally located on the A58 from Tilburg to Eindhoven and at junction Galder on the A16 according to the ANWB.
