Itinerant forest to be seen in Roermond in the coming weeks | 1Limburg

Right in the center on the Markt in front of the city hall in Roermond is a ‘walking city forest’. About twenty easy to move large wooden boxes containing various trees have been on the market since Saturday evening.

The ‘forest’ is there thanks to an initiative of a number of local, environmentally conscious entrepreneurs who would like to see Roermond get more greenery.

Visible
With this, the initiators support and hope to visualize and accelerate the policy of the municipality of Roermond to welcome more greenery in the city center. “We have been trying for years with the municipality and a lot of people to make the city greener. But that is not easy, you have a lot of rules that you have to comply with. In this way we want to show what green does to the city,” says initiator Peter Stox.

It is the intention that the trees will be on display at various locations in Roermond over the next seven weeks, including at Steenweg, Munsterplein, Kloosterwandplein, Neerstraat and finally back to the Markt.

The importance of more greenery in the city center
Greening is on the agenda of the municipality of Roermond, but with this action the local entrepreneurs, including gardeners, green-related (catering) entrepreneurs and related companies, want to give the municipality an extra boost and brighten up the city center. They also think that more greenery is beneficial for health and the quality of life in the city centre.

art
An art collective has placed works of art at various trees. There are also trees where poems and signs with short stories have been placed. According to Vester Kok of AS creation, this is necessary to get people’s attention. “Art also attracts people. There may be people who are less interested in trees. We also want to involve them. You now see that people also want to look at art. That they pause for a moment, come to themselves and look at the art and poems and the trees.”
