Italy’s women’s volleyball team wins the Nations League

Italy won the women’s volleyball Nations League for the first time. In the final on Sunday in Ankara, the runner-up world champion beat Olympic silver medalist Brazil 3-0 (25:23, 25:22, 25:22) and secured the gold medal.

The Brazilians once again took silver in their third consecutive appearance in the final.

The USA had won the three previous editions of the competition. However, the Olympic champion had already failed this year in the quarterfinals against the Serbians, who secured the bronze medal in the afternoon. In the match for third place, the world champion prevailed against hosts Turkey 3:0 (27:25, 25:17, 26:24).

Serbia is one of the five German group opponents at the World Cup in the Netherlands and Poland (September 23 to October 15). The selection of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) had already failed in the group stage of the Nations League and had finished tenth in the overall standings.
