Italy women’s volleyball: official Velasco new coach

The coach and the Federation have reached an agreement: from 1 January the coach will take on the role. He will leave the Busto Arsizio bench

Julio tries again. From January 1st Julio Velasco will be the technical commissioner of the women’s national team. An appointment that had been in the air since the end of the Olympic qualifying tournament, with the missed pass to Paris and the consequent divorce from Davide Mazzanti. The Italian-Argentine coach, who this season has voted for women by accepting the leadership of Busto Arsizio, returns to lead the women’s national team 27 years after his first attempt when, after his farewell to the men’s national team, he was asked to start a cycle with the women’s team which however lasted only a few months before the coach was tempted by managerial roles in football. However, he had time to start the Club Italia which has given so many athletes to the national team.

New adventure

“The Italian Volleyball Federation announces that it has entrusted the role of technical commissioner of the women’s national team to Julio Velasco. For the coach from La Plata, technical director of the men’s youth national teams until August, it’s about starting again with a new adventure on the blue bench. Velasco’s role will start from January 1st.” This is the brief statement with which the Federation announces the role entrusted to Velasco who will therefore leave Busto from January 1st (the Federation does not accept double roles for its coaches). The technician will be officially presented on November 21st.
