Italy’s football record champions Juventus Turin remain on the heels of leaders Inter Milan in Serie A.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team won against Sassuolo Calcio 3-0 (2-0) on Tuesday (January 16, 2024) and is still two points behind their rivals with 49 points after 20 games.
Dusan Vlahovic with a brace (15th/37th) and Federico Chiesa (89th) ensured the sixth win in a row. The direct duel between Juventus and Inter will take place on February 4th at San Siro in Milan.
Milan defeats Roma, who are parting ways with coach Mourinho
On Sunday, Bayern Munich had already beaten their Champions League round of 16 opponent Lazio Rome US Lecce 1-0 (0-0) and thus moved past FC Bologna (1-2 at Cagliari Calcio). Lazio’s gap to rivals AC Fiorentina in fourth and final Champions League place is now just one point after Fiorentina’s 2-2 (0-1) draw against Udinese Calcio.
Tough fight for fourth place
But Atalanta Bergamo hasn’t lost sight of the big international business after the 5-0 (3-0) win over Frosinone Calcio and is just ahead of Lazio thanks to a better goal difference.
At the top, former champions AC Milan remain close to the top duo with league leaders Inter Milan (5-1 at AC Monza on Saturday) and pursuers Juventus Turin. Milan won against AS Roma 3:1 (1:0). On Tuesday, Roma parted ways with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho. His successor will be club icon Daniele de Rossi.
