Future at Juventus open
Giorgio Chiellini will make his last appearance for the Italian national team on June 1. The 37-year-old defender announced on Monday evening that he wanted to play his last international match for the “Squadra Azzurra” in the newly constructed Finalissima – the duel between the European champions and the Copa America champions. Italy and Argentina meet at Wembley Stadium in the first edition.
“I will say goodbye to the national team at Wembley Stadium, where I experienced the highlight of my career by winning the European Championship,” said Chiellini on “DAZN”. Last summer he captained the Italian team to the pan-European Championship and was voted the tournament’s best defender. Only a few months after the sporting highlight, came the great disappointment of missing out on the World Cup in Qatar again in March – Chiellini had emphasized after the 0-1 draw against North Macedonia that it was “not the right time” to think about a possible resignation .

Chiellini played his first international match in November 2004 under Marcello Lippi, back then as a left-back. To date, 115 more games have followed, and with 116 appearances, the Juventus professional is tied for fifth among Italy’s record players. At his last appearance in June he can draw level with Daniele De Rossi in fourth place.
Juventus: Chiellini’s future remains open – decision after Coppa Italia
While Chiellini’s future with the national team is now certain, the situation at club level remains unclear. The defender’s contract with Juventus is about to expire, and there has recently been speculation about a move to Major League Soccer. “My love for Juventus does not end, it will never end,” said Chiellini. He wants to “weigh everything up until the end of the season” and make a decision after the Coppa Italia final on May 11 against Inter Milan.
