THETALIA – BRAZIL 3-2 – THE MATCH
Genre: Documentary
Direction: Jacopo Rondinelli. On Sky Documentaries and on demand
Forty years since that July 5, 1982. Forty years from Italy-Brazil 3-2 at the Mundial of Spain. A date that marked a watershed in the history not only of the blue sport, but probably of the entire nation.
The perfect match with which Bearzot’s national team became fully aware of their strengths after a slow start. In the summer that marks the round-numbered anniversary of that enterprise, in which documentaries and archive images proliferate, the match that is most remembered is not the final, but a previous match (curiously, even the Italy-Germany 4-3 “match of the century” in 1970 was not a final).
After being dissected minute by minute in the book by Piero Trellini (The matcha, Mondadori), now it becomes a short docu-series revived as acts of an epic of the past.
In the product packaged by Jacopo Rondinelli interviews and testimonies alternatefrom Dino Zoff to Beppe Bergomi, from Claudio Gentile to Bruno Conti, but also journalists such as Mario Sconcerti.
There are two narrative lines: the highlights of the game and the background and anecdotes. Italy-Brazil, in spite of the title, it was not just a match, but an intertwining of feelings and unexpected events, of sliding doors Italian style.
To relive the epic of 82 and an event that has become imaginary of the national community
