Paris (AP) – The Italian Martina Trevisan was the first tennis player to reach the quarterfinals at the French Open. The 28-year-old won in Paris against Alexandra Sasnowitsch from Belarus 7: 6 (12:10), 7: 5. Sasnowitsch had knocked out Angelique Kerber in the previous round.
Trevisan underlined their current good form with the win. Before the French Open, the Italian had won the WTA tournament in Rabat.
In the quarter-finals Trevisan now has to deal with the Canadian Leylah Fernandez. Last year’s US Open finalist won against American Amanda Anisimova 6: 3, 4: 6, 6: 3. This is the second time in her career that the 19-year-old has reached the quarterfinals of one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
