The court in Milan already found Robinho guilty of the charges in December and confirmed the earlier decision of the court in 2017. The former player of AC Milan, among others, appealed, but without success. The Supreme Court ruling cannot be challenged.
Robinho, who played a hundred international matches, was due to play football for his former club Santos in his native country in October. Due to all the fuss about his conviction and his pending appeal, many of the club’s sponsors threatened to withdraw. The parties involved subsequently refrained from renewing employment.
Robinho was acquitted of rape in 2009 when he played football for Manchester City. He also played for Real Madrid.
The chance that Robinho will have to serve the sentence does not seem very great. Italy could start extradition proceedings now that Robinho has received a final sentence. However, Brazil has a long tradition of not extraditing its own citizens to other countries.
