Italian Ganna just a little faster than Van Aert in Dauphiné time trial

The Italian Filippo Ganna has won the time trial in the Critérium du Dauphiné. The 25-year-old rider of Ineos Grenadiers was more than 2 seconds faster than the Belgian Wout van Aert of Jumbo-Visma. It took Ganna 35 minutes and 32 seconds to complete the 31.9 kilometer time trial.

The Briton Ethan Hayter, teammate of Ganna, clocked the third time. Slovenian Primoz Roglic, who, like Van Aert, drives for the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma, finished fifth in La Bâtie d’Urfé, France. Roglic conceded 42 seconds on Ganna, the world time trial champion of 2020 and 2021.

Van Aert retained the lead in the general classification.

The Dauphiné lasts until Sunday.
