Italian convicted for ejaculating on Dutch tourist’s ankle on escalator | Abroad

A 35-year-old man from the central Italian region of Tuscany has been convicted of intimidating a Dutch tourist. He harassed her in a very remarkable way on an escalator in Cortona, a town in the hills.

The court in Arezzo deemed it proven that the man in his thirties ejaculated on the ankle of a Dutch tourist in the summer of 2019. The woman, a journalist by profession, was standing in Cortona with her daughter on the escalator from the Spirito Santo car park, to Piazza Garibaldi, in the heart of the Etruscan city. Suddenly she noticed semen on her bare ankle. The shocked woman reacted instinctively. She turned around in disgust and punched the man behind her in the face, she stated in her report to the police, according to the regional news site SR71.

The investigation initially yielded no trace of the suspect, but that changed after a similar incident on a regional train to Arezzo. A young woman heard moaning behind her, looked over, saw a man masturbating vigorously and then being covered in semen. The victim reported the incident to the railway police. The police in Cortona discovered the case and managed to identify the suspect.

The 35-year-old man from Foiano della Chiana appeared to have been prosecuted for similar events in the past, but was acquitted. For the escalator incident, the court in Arezzo convicted him on Friday of intimidation, an offense. The prosecutor had argued as an aggravating circumstance that the obscene behavior was made worse by the presence of a minor, but the judge did not agree.

It is not clear exactly what punishment the suspect received. Article 660 of the Italian Criminal Code provides that anyone who, in a public place or place accessible to the public, or by means of the telephone, harasses another person, out of irritability or for any other reprehensible reason, shall be punished with a prison sentence of up to six months or a fine of up to 516 euros.

The man in his thirties may soon have to appear in court for the train incident.
