Susy Caramel A new program starts this Tuesday on Movistar +. After touring the United States in ‘Susi Free’, the comedian premieres ‘Rojo Caramelo’, its new format on the payment platform that means its return to the red carpets of the great national and international events such as the Goya Awardsthe Malaga Film Festivalthe Venice’s Carnivalthe Paris Fashion Week, the Grammys or the Oscars.
‘Rojo Caramelo’ will take Susi Caramelo to a big event in each episode to cover it from a unique perspective: Susi will transcend the red carpet and will do an exhaustive report with an opening monologue and an interview in which an “expert” in the event in question she will advise him, give him clues and even give him homework. YOTELE talks to the comedian about her new show, among other things.

What are we going to see from this Tuesday on ‘Rojo Caramelo’, your new Movistar Plus+ program?
You are going to go back to what you used to do in the photocalls, but we are also going to add interviews with guest artists, who are being very cutting edge, and a monologue at the beginning. The program is weekly and short in duration. In addition, you are going to see me interviewing more relaxed, and not as rushing as on red carpets, and I also make the leap to international events. The truth is that I am very happy.
I imagine that returning to the red carpets after you became very popular by covering them in ‘The Missing Ones’ must be very special…
Yes. I am very excited because we had to cut this a bit due to the covid issue, which caused all the events to be cancelled. It was like a forced march of the photocalls, but of course, there was a lot of fun left there. It makes me very excited because I feel super comfortable. It is my natural habitat.
Recently, I was commissioned to make the carpet for The 40 Music Awards. I was nervous because I hadn’t done this type of coverage in a long time and suddenly, I realized again that it was my thing. I didn’t have to be afraid because I was going out on my own. I have a lot of facility for it.
You have reached so high that you have even turned the tables and now you pose in them.
I already tell you. In fact, this year, the Malaga Festival invited me as a guest and I had to tell them that I was going as a reporter. They were going to pay for my stay with everything cool and I had to tell them that I’m working. Man, I’ll try to get in front of it, but, come on, I’m not going to be able to live the vibe that we all know the Malaga Festival has. I can’t unfold. So, nothing and I have to choose the job, but you’ve screwed me that you can’t see. It’s what you say. Now they invite me to pose in front of the photocall and many times I have to pose from behind because I have to work, but then I’ll sneak into the party (laughs).
The event with which you will premiere this Tuesday will be the Goya Awards gala, an event that you also did one of your first solo specials on Movistar Plus + (‘Lo de los Goyas’). Knowing that you would like to present them, I imagine that you will be especially excited to start there.
Of course it makes me excited. It is one of the most important events of the year, and in addition to cinema, which is what I like. The first years are always very cool, but I’m just as excited because there are people I haven’t been able to interview, such as Penélope Cruz or Javier Bardem. Let’s see if I catch this one. Also, as I told you, I’m going to be more relaxed because the year I was there I did 10 hours on the carpet and this year we’re not going to do as many because we have limited time and we don’t need to do so much recording time for them to stay in X minutes of editing So, I’m going to work less and I’m going to have more time for the after party.
Have a good trip to @Goya Awards, @susi_caramelo ?
Tell us on Tuesday how was the train trip and the gala with the premiere of #RedCaramel ? pic.twitter.com/wQicoMC3Nx— #0 by Movistar Plus+ (@zero) February 12, 2022
In addition, Penélope and Javier are nominated for the Oscars, a ceremony that you will also cover in this program…
Yes, I also have to let them know so they can help me on the red carpet at the Oscars because you know I don’t speak English. I have to earn them for them to listen to me there. I also tell you that I have questions from 2019 that stayed there without asking them because I couldn’t interview. So, I’m going to do a remember and I can sneak in any of these questions.
It’s just that if the Goya Awards are top, the Oscars are not even telling you…
The Oscars are going to be very cool. Besides, this year when I’m there recording, I was seeing the Dolby Theater and I think it’s going to be very impressive to see it like that. It is that then the Hollywood actors seem to be fake. They are the most beautiful people in the world. That’s where I have to be.
Have you got an idea of what can happen there when you’re on the red carpet at the Oscars?
I think what is going to happen to me there is that it is going to cost me my life to be able to access the actors because there are several levels and it is very difficult to pass, as I call it, the third phase. It will be very complicated. So I don’t know how I’m going to manage. I have some idea that I don’t want to advance, but there I have to give the note in some way because nobody knows me there. It’s like starting over there. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. Something cool is going to come out. I entered or I did not enter, something I will do for sure.
Then, I go to see them relatively close and I have a lot of face. Many times I surprise myself. When I think I can’t be less ashamed, I’m even less ashamed. I’m going to be your representative of mamarachismo there. It would be I am not. So, I’ll put on a chat so they can tell me all the bullshit that comes to mind in Spain.
But, man, I imagine that you will not dress with the Spanish flag at the Sonia Monroy level.
No, but it’s not for nothing. I just hate the combination of red and yellow. I do not like. I think it doesn’t stick.
By the way, will Sonia Monroy be this year? I hope I find it. We laugh at Sonia Monroy and then she’s there at the Oscars. In other words, little joke with her.
In addition to the red carpet of the Goya and the Oscars, in which other events will you record the program?
We will also be at Paris Fashion Week and Venezia Carnival. In Spain, we have the Malaga Festival, the ARCO fair, the Las Palmas Carnival… We are going to cover all the important film festivals. In addition to music, we are working to see if we can access the Grammys.
Looking back, from those reports of ‘The Missing Ones’ to this moment in which you have even made movies, what balance do you make?
Positive of course. Look at all I have achieved. It was finishing ‘The Missing Ones’ and they offered me a program. Then another one came and I’m already on the third program they offer me, and on top of that with my name. They’re like personalities. I am aware of how lucky I am and I am very grateful for it, since it is very difficult for this to happen on television. Too bad I won’t have to be doing it. I hit my teeth, above all, because it’s been a very hard two years for many people who have lost their jobs and I can’t complain about everything negative that was the issue of the pandemic and what has meant for everyone.
People saw that it happened from one day to the next, but I had been working hard for many years to get to the top. It is true that everyone tends to think about their own thing, but when I reached the top, the world stopped and I couldn’t enjoy that moment 100% and really live it. It’s been hard to process going from such a frenetic pace to a year-long hiatus in your prime. At that point in my career I can’t enjoy anything. I was focused on the job and working beyond my means. It’s going to seem frivolous but it was the moment when the whole world knew me and they invited me to parties, and suddenly they planted a mask on us and the events were over, joining with other personal matters that nobody knows and that were very hard.
Do you consider yourself a benchmark? personalities from this country?
I really don’t consider myself. It would be very conceited of me to be a referent of something. The public is the one that turns you into it- If one day I consider myself to be, give me two wafers and put me down a peg

Maybe there are more seasons of ‘Rojo Caramelo’ but, what program would you like to do after this one?
I’m thinking about the one right now. I have enough with the four months ahead of me, which are crazy, to think about the next program. I’m focused on mine, which is this, and what’s to come, hopefully there will be, but we’ll think about it when it comes. I have a team behind me that thinks very well. I am to put the face, laughter with high energy and many things. We would have to think about the next format, but when the situation arises. It is not necessary to advance things because, even sometimes, they give bad luck. What I worry about is doing ‘Rojo Caramelo’ well so that another one is offered to me. That is my ultimate goal today.
