It took 48 pigs to make a favorite movie

A total of 48 pigs played the main roles in the movie Babe – the brave pig.

Channel TV5 is showing the hit movie of 1995 today Babe – a brave pig at 12:00.

Few people know that Babe, the main character of the film, was played by a total of 48 white Yorkshire pigs during filming. The little pigs grew so fast that they had to be changed at a fast pace.

All the pigs in the photos were sent to homes where they would not be slaughtered. All the pigs were sows and they were able to reproduce in their new homes. An animal trainer by Karl Lewis Miller a few pigs were donated to university students’ research.

The making of the film took a long time, which naturally required always younger pigs for the filming as the previous ones grew up. The pigs’ speech and facial movements were created using film technology. In the 1990s, technology was still so basic that creating speech was behind work and pain. In order to minimize the work, animated pigs were used in the wide shots, while real ones were used in the close-ups.
