It starts this Saturday to put pressure on the independence groups

The objective of the Assembly is to form an investigation committee in the Parliament to analyze the effects of the repression of the sovereignty movement

The Catalan National Assembly (ANC) has started this Saturday a camping in Barcelona ensuring that the only solution to repression is independence.

In a speech with activists from the entity, its president, Dolors Feliu, pointed out that Spanish justice “is not afraid” of sovereignty. “We are here more determined than ever knowing that there is a solution to repression, only one, what is it? Independence,” she exclaimed.

On the other hand, he has stated that the independence movement will not sit idly by. This noon there was a reading of a manifesto in which the “Catalanophobia analogous to anti-Semitism” of 19th-century France is denounced, which, according to the ANC, characterizes the Spanish courts.

The purpose of the Assembly is keep until this sunday the encampment in Plaza Catalunya, which had two dozen tents this morning, to put pressure on the pro-independence parties and form an investigative commission in Parliament to analyze the effects of the repression on the independence movement.

This protest action has been carried out to coincide with the anniversary of the arrest of independence leaders Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart, sent to prison in 2017 for their participation in the 1-O referendum.

Acts in progress

In the next few hours, the Assemblea has organized various events and talks in the same location where the 15-M encampment in Barcelona was also erected eleven years ago. On this occasion the camp has not had common areas and the area is limited to a group of removable tents delimited by a fence.

The first act of this Saturday has been the reading of an extensive manifesto with which the ANC seeks to “accuse” the Spanish justice system of not treating independence with impartiality, but with a repressive intention. The text, read by a group of actors from the ‘R de República’ group, accuses the State and King Felipe VI of organizing a “general cause against independence”. “A persecution linked in the form of criminal proceedings and other actions,” says the manifesto.

In this sense, Feliu has opted for not forget the ‘martyrs‘: “We are here because we are not afraid and we are with our victims,” he added. On the other hand, he has opted to accompany “those who fight” and has warned that each victim represents the independence movement as a whole.
