Andries van Beek thought in Purmerend a found a photo of Vincent van Gogh, but after research by the Van Gogh Museum it turns out to be someone else. “I decide to believe them,” says Andries about the result.
“I’m bummed like a plug!”, he says. “It was to be expected, but it became exciting for a while. I showed the photo to several people who know about it and they said: ‘This is really him!’, but I believe the Van Gogh Museum. Well, I think that it is still going to be discussed!”

Andries collects photos from the 19th century and took a closer look at the photo album he had bought at the flea market when he got home. There he thought he saw not only Vincent, but also his sister. In a short message from the Van Gogh Museum to Andries, it becomes clear that this is not the case: ‘In our opinion, the similarities are not striking enough.’
Despite someone else being in the picture, Andries had an exciting few days. “I don’t really care about the rest!”
